Exeter City Council bought a corporate electronic
information management licence from VALID two years ago to enable
the council to fulfil its e-Government obligations. Exeter is committed
to ensuring that access to council services and information is provided
electronically, with the aim of meeting the Government’s target
of 100% service capability by the year 2005.
In meeting the 2005 target, Exeter City Council is
making every effort to ensure that all sectors of the community
benefit, whether businesses, individuals or visitors.The installation
of the R/KYV electronic information management solution has already
brought benefits to the council, as outlined below:

Exeter is already seeing quantifiable business benefits from the
installation of R/KYV in the planning department. The introduction
of online planning applications into the 33-man department will
reduce the administrative workload by 20%. This means 200 man-hours
saved per month, on top of this saving the department will also
be able to re-deploy one full-time planning officer who was employed
specifically to manage planning queries. “
The Council is responsible for a wide variety of
services in the city including: collecting council tax and business
rates; providing housing and council tax benefits; managing elections;
providing council housing; providing a range of environmental health
services such as dog wardens, pest control, food safety, providing
parks, leisure facilities and museums; providing markets and halls
collecting refuse; sweeping the streets; providing recycling facilities;
maintaining the highways; providing car parks and residents parking
deciding planning applications; managing the council's commercial
properties
Promoting the city for tourism and business; providing a wide ranging
events programme and supporting the arts.
