Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council announced today
that they have purchased a corporate Document Management System,
valued at £1.2m, from Valid Information Systems, to enable
them to provide better on-line services and open access to their
citizens.
The authority wide system will eventually contain
all electronic information that is produced by the Council and will
scan and capture all externally produced documents. Chair of the
Finance and General Sub-committee, Councillor Brian Millard , said
"We are a very large organisation responsible for providing
a huge range of services for a population of almost 300,000 citizens.
At the touch of a button an officer will have immediate access to
the right information, and they will be able to respond much more
rapidly and effectively.
"Successful businesses use new technology to
increase their efficiency - the public also deserves a high level
of efficiency from the Council, and we see this as the way ahead
for the future."
In choosing the R/KYV system from Valid Information
Systems, from the more than 50 tenders they received, Stockport
have adopted a system that has proven its capabilities in the business
environment for the last twelve years. The fact that R/KYV was fully
Web enabled in 1995, when many people had not even heard of the
Internet, has meant that VALID are able to build huge corporate
wide systems, that are accessible either using traditional GUI or
HTML front ends. Their ASP solution The VALID Vault has unlimited
remote access points and with a four year proven track record, has
all the necessary functionality for the citizens of Stockport to
gain access to 'Open Government'.
Says Bill Cannings, Managing Director of VALID,
"We are very excited to have gained such a large contract from
a Metropolitan Borough. This on top of having been voted the top
supplier of Document Management solutions, for all categories, in
the completely independent SOCITM report, is the icing on the cake."
