The Procurement and Commissioning Department of Suffolk
County Council, has recently concluded live tests of an electronic
tendering system developed in conjunction with the IT Unit using
R/KYV Document and Records Management software.
Bidders for many County Council contracts, may now
apply for documents, complete and return tenders via e-mail into
a locked and secure mailbox. Receipts are automatically generated
so that bidding firms will know when their tender has been received
by the Council.
Nicol Thornton, Assistant Director of Procurement
and Commissioning, said: "We are pleased to be among the first
Councils in the country to introduce an electronic system that offers
both increased efficiency and improved access for potential contractors.
This is part of our on-going and positive commitment to the Government's
agenda for electronic commerce."
Details of the system and current tender opportunities
can be found through the Council's website at www.suffolkcc.gov.uk.
Apart from making the tendering process more accessible
and efficient, the new system is also more environmentally friendly
as there will be a significant reduction in paper used.
